 Introduction

Republic day is celebrated on 24th September. It is celebrated like an anniversary of a country. Trinidad and Tobago got freedom from the British monarch. On this day, Trinidad and Tobago were officially announced as a queen of president under the new constitution.

People of the country celebrate it as a national holiday. They celebrate it with different events and festivals which reflect their history and traditions.

Now if we can think why this day is so important in the eyes of the people then we can say that actually it’s a journey to freedom and liberalism. The British controlled this Island until 1962. After it, Trinidad and Tobago gained its freedom on 31st August. Trinidad and Tobago became an independent nation. Who are free from British rules. Its main motive is to give full political freedom to the country’s people.

Importance of Republic Day

It has great significance because there is great struggle behind this independence. This day is a reminder of how many people give their lives for it. This journey was not easy but it was worth the effort.

It provokes the idea that the people of the Island are much able to govern themselves. They make their own decisions about their future. This day gathered the entire nation to one place for celebration.

 It’s a home of mingled culture having influences from Africa, India and Europe. This day is to celebrate its diversity which is a main part of nation identity. It shows the variant traditions of a country.

It’s also a political milestone as well because it symbolizes the nation’s final break from its mysteries and dark past. It is also a reminder of democracy in which the government will be for the people, of the people and by the people.

  • How it’s celebrated

It’s a day of nation’s pride and reflection. It’s not much grand in other people’s eyes but it’s very important for Irish people. Across the country people come together to organize cultural festivals, music, dance and theater etc.

  • Patriotic speeches

National leaders like the president and prime minister deliver patriotic speeches which reflect countries progress and effort. these speeches often focus on brotherhood and national pride.

 On this day also organized public and civil events like flag raising school ceremonies etc.people gathered to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for this freedom.

On this a public holiday and most of the families arranged the gathering to spend time with each other and enjoy this day.

  • Role of young people

I think it’s an opportunity to learn about history, to learn about sacrifices, to learn about people’s commitment and devolution…public schools also arrange different programs from which our young generation knows about their past and history also.

This day is a bridge among past and future as well as among young and old.youth also knows about democratic values that the republic represents.
